Overshot Mug Rugs (“branoe”)

Description

Larger than a coaster, smaller than a placemat, just right for a mug and a cookie, these mug rugs were handwoven on a rigid heddle loom.

The design was created using a traditional Slavic technique called branoe (браное, also known as overshot) which calls for a pattern thread to float above the ground cloth, creating a counted-thread embroidered effect and a reversible image. The Large mug rug showcases a classic geometric pattern, and the Small mug rug features a traditional feminine image.

Foundation cloth (white): 100% cotton. Pattern (red): 100% superwash wool.
